It was quite infectious how the shredded kind of aesthetic went on at Rodarte and now they recently introduced menswear capitalising on that as well. And Opening Ceremony now delivers us an interesting bit of this endeavour from the Mulleavy soeurs. The merchandise over there keeps on getting more interesting like those Stephan Schneider pieces I blogged about some time ago.
And really, I like holes, fissures, gaps, the visualisation of transparency/openness (and it would be nice to wear nothing under this pull to further stress that... and the transparency thing is something embedded in Filipino culture). I rather fancy how it looks like as if it's an anthesis of a sweater or a cardigan that is supposed to be outerwear or some kind of another protective layer of clothing. It's like a kind of subtle subversion within the system and not a radical or heretical attack on something which can often be problematic or at times too romantic. Here, we have the structure of a sweater and a cardigan yet they are not really such in terms of functionality. This is the kind of frippery, the kind of beauty I would like. So, I wouldn't be complaining about the EUR 1800,00 ++ price tag (though I obviously can't afford it) because it's much like how you would either justify or agree to paying thousands upon thousands of euros for a Sherrie Levine artwork.
